The aim was to evaluate the professional trajectory of former undergraduate Dentistry students in Angola in terms of time since graduation. This is a cross-sectional observational study of quantitative nature carried out with former students from 06 higher education institutions, among which the first students graduated in 2006. A total of 285 dentists were invited to complete a semi-structured questionnaire to identify the socioeconomic, demographic, professional and academic profile of respondents from their training to their experience during the Covid-19 pandemic. Data obtained were submitted to descriptive analysis and associations with time since graduation were tested. Most former students are female (73.3%), aged 30-39 years (44.5%) who work in the public sector (30.1%). Less than 25% of them (20.6%) reported having attended at least one graduate program. The majority (92.5%) graduated in Luanda, the city where most participants (80.1%) live. For 80.1%, the average monthly income is up to 10 minimum wages (up to 321,810kz; 1kz = R$ 0,01188), considered regular or insufficient (77.4%). The covid-19 pandemic greatly or extremely impacted the professional life of 58.9% of respondents. Students who graduated up to 2016 were more involved in graduate programs (p<0.05) and reported having higher monthly income (p<0.05). It could be concluded that former Angolan Dentistry students are characterized by being mostly women who graduated in Luanda. The longer the time of professional training, the greater the academic degree and the greater the income satisfaction (AU).

The constant movements within global business scenarios have been increasing the level of demands in relationships between customers and suppliers, thus, it is essential for dentists to update themselves in the face of technology related not only to the technical aspects of Dentistry, but also to the aspects management of their companies. The objectives of this research include analyzing the demographic, academic and professional profiles of dental surgeons in São José dos Campos and surroundings, as well as the sensitivity of dentistry professionals to the use of management models as enhancers of competitive differentiation and even so, to verify the quality of management-related disciplines during their academic training. The resources and methods that were used to develop this work were carried out through bibliographical research on renowned material, as well as qualitative evaluation through research prepared with multiple-choice answers. For the submission of questionnaires to the clinics, an instructional video was prepared, where in addition to presenting the operational process of responding and sending, a small theoretical opening will also be presented. This questionnaire can be accessed through a link or QR Code, for access via the internet or printed material on paper for people who is unfamiliar with such technologies. As a result, it appears that, among the 153 (100%) valid individuals, 137 (89.5%) recognize management models as drivers of business results and 136 (88.9%) identify this approach as a trend in the segment. Additionally, it appears that 83 (54.2%) of them studied some discipline related to management during their undergraduate studies, and within this group, 68 (81.9%) evaluated them as deficient. This reveals a significant gap between academic teaching in Dentistry and the essential management skills in professional practice, culminating in a scenario in which only 29 (19.0%) effectively apply Professional Business Management in their clinics. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A growing variety of intraoral appliances are being used in dental practice. Insight about the range of applications and practice workflow as well as factors effecting change in practice trends was sought. METHODS: A survey was developed to ascertain intraoral appliance use, fabrication methods, staff involvement, and patient experiences in dental practice. The survey was sent to ADA Clinical Evaluators Panel members on July 25, 2022, in Qualtrics and remained open for 2 weeks. After 1 week, those who had not responded yet were sent reminders. Data were analyzed descriptively in SAS Version 9.4. RESULTS: Of the 286 respondents (a 28% response rate), 88% reported providing patients with intraoral appliances apart from providing patients with removable partial dentures. More than one-half of the respondents reported offering bleaching trays (88%), flippers or Essix retainers (83%), splints (81%), athletic mouthguards (72%), orthodontic retainers (60%), fluoride trays (56%), and clear aligners (55%). The biggest changes to practice in the past 5 years with respect to intraoral appliances have been intraoral scanning (56%) and the increase in the variety of intraoral appliances in use. Although 72% reported dental assistants were involved in obtaining impressions and fabricating models for intraoral appliances and 76% reported that laboratory technicians were involved in fabricating intraoral appliances, nearly all (97%) respondents indicated that the dentist was involved in the delivery of appliances to patients. Patient education about the use of their appliances appeared to be delivered using multiple approaches, given that it was reported to occur orally (95%), in print (61%), and visually (42%). That 90% of respondents reported having engaged in continuing education courses about intraoral appliances aligns with these appliances becoming a routine part of dental practice, with both increasing applications and improvements in the relevant technology. CONCLUSIONS: Intraoral appliances were found to be used commonly in dental practice, and often multiple members of the dental care team were engaged in the fabrication processes. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: There likely will be ongoing interest in relevant learning opportunities about technologic advances as well as the increasingly diverse list of applications for intraoral appliances.

RESUMO

Obtaining basic management skills and including management and leadership as essential components of the curriculum is a critical part of dental students' education. This research evaluated the understanding of management concepts of dental students at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), before and after participating in a Management and Professional Guidance course. This quantitative study assessed the level of knowledge of management skills and competencies of dental students through a validated questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, adopting a significance level of 5%. The sample consisted of 47 students, 18 from the 1st semester, 18 from the 7th semester and 11 from the 10th semester of the course. All students considered knowledge about management extremely important for the dentist. The level of knowledge about management skills and leadership is low among students, with no statistically significant difference between student year of training. Specifically, concerning students midway through their dental training, there was a significant increase in knowledge for all management skills after attending the Management and Professional Guidance course (p <0.05). As for Leadership Skills, there was a statistically significant difference (p <0.05) for "Legal Notions", "Self-Management" and "Management Relationship". We conclude that knowledge about management and leadership is low among undergraduate dental students at UFPB and that the "Management and Professional Guidance" course promoted a significant increase in the level of this knowledge, contributing to better professional training for students (AU).

Dentists are healthcare professionals who are at high risk of infection and transmission of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). The primary objective of the present study was to evaluate the changes in clinical practice made by Brazilian dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic. From June 22 to July 13, 2020, an online questionnaire was sent to dentists using Google Forms. After providing consent, 1,178 dentists answered questions regarding their knowledge and clinical experiences related to COVID-19. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's exact, or Kruskal-Wallis tests, with a significance level of 5%. Brazilian dentists significantly changed their routine dental practices. Biosafety measures were added in their offices by 98% of the dentists, increasing operating costs for 88.3% of dentists. Greater discomfort due to the increase in personal protection equipment (PPE) worn during the pandemic was reported by 58.6%. Furthermore, 84.2% reduced heir hours of service. It was found that the dentists decreased their workload, used additional PPE, and took additional biosafety measures.
